Kazakhstan, Czech PMs Discuss Expanding Economic Cooperation

(MENAFN) Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov held talks on Tuesday with Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis in Astana, focusing on expanding cooperation across a wide range of sectors including trade, industry, investment, energy, transport, logistics, digital technologies, and humanitarian relations.

According to a statement from the Kazakh government, the Czech Republic is regarded as one of Kazakhstan’s important economic partners in Europe. The statement noted that bilateral trade reached approximately $705 million by the end of 2025.

It also reported that Czech direct investment in Kazakhstan stood at $59 million, marking an increase of 39 percent.

Bektenov emphasized the importance of advancing cooperation through practical joint projects, particularly in areas such as industrial development, energy, logistics, digitalization, and artificial intelligence.

For his part, Babis expressed interest in strengthening collaboration in sectors including chemicals, energy, water resources, and related industries.

Both sides also discussed potential cooperation in nuclear energy, including fuel cycle services, as well as training programs and technology exchange.

Transport links were another key topic, with officials noting growth in freight movement. Rail freight reached 10.1 thousand tons in the first quarter of 2026, reflecting an 18 percent increase, while road freight exceeded 38,000 tons in 2025, according to the statement.
