Czech ANO party to ink coalition pact with two Eurosceptic parties

(MENAFN) The leader of the Czech Republic’s ANO party announced plans to finalize a coalition agreement with two Eurosceptic parties, the Motorists Party and the Freedom and Direct Democracy (SPD) party, on November 3, according to reports.

Andrej Babis, head of the right-wing populist ANO party, confirmed that an accord has been reached to form a coalition government with the two parties. The leaders of all three parties are scheduled to meet later this week to discuss the distribution of key parliamentary positions and outline the government’s policy priorities.

This announcement follows President Petr Pavel’s formal assignment to Babis on Monday to negotiate the formation of a new government. The ANO leader is expected to present both the coalition agreement and the government’s principal agenda to the president later this week.

In the parliamentary elections held on October 3-4, Babis’ ANO party secured a decisive victory with approximately 34.7% of the vote, well ahead of the governing center-right Spolu coalition, which received around 23.2%.
